New to the FAT family, but seasoned veterans in the current punk rock scene, we welcome The Soviettes and their new album, LPIII (their third long play…doy) to their new home at FAT!
Straight from their basement layer in the frost-bitten Midwest, Minneapolis to be exact, the three women and one man known as The Soviettes emerge from hibernation with 14 of their rockinest songs yet! If you’ve never heard The Soviettes, think back to the early 90’s and the pop-punk sound coming from the Gilman St.
scene in Berkeley, mix that with the dissonant and gritty punk rock that the Midwest has always been known for, then dab a bit of the Go Gos, and the B-52s on top, and you’ve got some extremely danceable punk rock!
The primarily female vocals (three women taking turns singing), sprinkled with unique fits of vocal outbursts from Danny (the drummer), perfectly frame their songs about lost love, drinking, and hard times in the USA.
Oh, let us not forget their ode to a local roller derby team with the song “Roller Girls”! If you want something that will force your ass to shake, and touch the lover down deep in your soul, this is it! Prepare to sing along! .
