Here’s a fizzing April Des Was a Bowie Fan at Jamboree, the dancefloor being oiled before with sweet blasts of garage Pop and post-punk from Leeds’ City Yelps! and, from London via Greece and another planet, Field Trip to the Moon.
City Yelps! play fuzzy garage Pop shot out of a glittergun, taking your heart racing with them on the roadrunner’s back faster miles per hour.
Field Trip to the Moon veer from swirling and pulsing, noir-ish post-punk to glimmering, gothic doomcore and smokey, jazzy beat ballads, rich in starry guitar lines, sweet violin suspense and handclapping beats. Their first LP ‘Something Owed’ was self-released in 2016, soon to be followed by a new EP.
Then at half 10, Kerouac’s bandanna lands on the lampshade with the touch of a Crystals chorus, dimming the lights for the ghosts of 60s girl groups, Northern Soul and rock’n’roll to join the most shimmering indiepop, new wave and post-punk till 3am.
All flaming limbs at the front line.
