Hot Snakes announce first album in 14 years, Jericho Sirens, share “Six Wave Hold-Down”: Stream

San Diego’s Hot Snakes have announced their first album on Sub Pop, Jericho Sirens. The garage punk outfit’s long awaited follow-up to 2004’s Audit in Progress arrives on March 16th.

The band self-produced and recorded their fourth studio album in Philadelphia and San Diego throughout 2017. “I considered stopping playing guitar on a social media poll after I completely mastered the instrument,” co-founder John Reis said through a press statement. “But so many people kept sending me letters and voicemail messages, asking me at the dry cleaners, or the butcher shop to bring back Hot Snakes.”

(Read: The 10 Most Anticipated Punk Albums of 2018)

“The inspiration would be simple, maybe even kind of straightforward,” he added. “Very early rock ‘n’ roll DNA with lots of rules. I would find some note or rhythm in it that captivated me and I dwelled on it and bent it… A lot of the other Hot Snakes records always had tension and release, but this one is mainly just tension.”

Jericho Sirens is available for pre-order here. Physical releases can be purchased through Sub Pop here, including a limited Loser Edition LP on black vinyl.

As a preview, Hot Snakes have unveiled a new song called “Six Wave Hold-Down”. It was one of the first tracks written for the project and charges forward with reckless abandon. Hear it below.

Ed Schrader’s Music Beat announce new, Dan Deacon-produced album, Riddles

Baltimore’s Ed Schrader’s Music Beat are back with their follow-up to 2014’s Party Jail. It’s called Riddles and is the post-punk duo’s debut album on Carpark Records.

For their third LP, Ed Schrader and Devlin Rice teamed with electronic artist Dan Deacon, who produced, arranged and co-wrote the entire release. They spent two years in total pushing their sound into the art-rock and alt-rock genres, pouring out emotions from their recent major life changes. Schrader lost his stepfather, while Rice watched his brother die of a terminal illness, and Deacon’s longest relationship came to an end.

“For me, the album parallels feelings of confronting the past, resolving it, facing the music, and blasting out of it,” Schrader shared through a press statement. “It’s the album our hearts wanted us to make.”

Riddles arrives on March 2nd. Physical pre-orders are currently available here. Some bundles include Ed Schrader’s Music Beans, bags of coffee roasted by ESMB’s resident coffee connoisseur Devlin Rice.

To preview the release, ESMB has shared the propulsive lead single “Dunce” and its cinematic music video. Check it out below.

Titus Andronicus announce new album, A Productive Cough, share video for lead single, “Number One (In New York)”: Watch

Titus Andronicus will return this year with a new album called A Productive Cough. Due out March 2nd via Merge, the seven-track effort is a noted departure from the sprawling rock opera of the band’s last record, 2015’s The Most Lamentable Tragedy.

Recorded at New Paltz, New York’s Marcata Recordings with producer Kevin McMahon, A Productive Cough eschews the “punk rock anthems” of Titus’ past albums to focus on spacious ballads. Singer-songwriter and frontman Patrick Stickles brought in 21 musicians to help with his newly expansive sound, including pianist Rick Steph (Cat Power, Hank Williams Jr.), cellist Jane Scarpantoni (R.E.M., Lou Reed), and Brooklyn singer Megg Farrell. The resulting effort puts the focus on the orchestral flourishes that have long hid in the background of the band’s music.

Which is why despite its lack of chorus, the eight-minute “Number One (In New York” makes for the perfect lead single for the record. The song is one 64-bar verse that builds on the back of swelling piano and saxophone towards a gang-chorus ending surrounded by ringing bells. “Yes, I’ve been everywhere, but everywhere that I’ve been/ I’ve been out of my element, even in my own skin,” goes the outro. “And I can’t begin to think what I’d tell people back home/ So I tell it to the microphone.”

Check out the track via its Ray Concepcion-directed video below.

The video also serves as a trailer of sorts to a 60-minute making-of documentary that will be released February 26th. More clips from the doc will be revealed over the coming weeks at the album’s website, where you can also find an interview with Stickles about what went into the creation of A Productive Cough.

Pre-orders for the album are going on now. In addition to all standard formats, there’s a “Peak Vinyl” limited-edition pressing on marbled blue-gray wax that includes a 7-inch featuring the band’s nine-minute reimagining of Bob Dylan’s “(I’m) Like a Rolling Stone”. The track is only otherwise available on CD or digitally.

American Nightmare announce new album, share thrashing single, “The World Is Blue”: Stream

American Nightmare have announced a new album, the long-awaited follow-up to 2003’s We’re Down Til We’re Underground. The self-titled release is due out February 16th through Rise Records.

The hardcore outfit’s third overall but first since disbanding in 2004 spans nine tracks, including titles like “Flowers Under Siege”, “Gloom Forever”, and “Colder Than Death”. It was recorded at Boston’s Mystic Valley Recording Studio by drummer Alex Garcia-Rivera, and is said to pay homage to the likes of Negative Approach, The Cro-Mags, Joy Division, and Siouxsie and The Banshees.

While American Nightmare represents something of a rebirth, it also hearkens back to the band’s roots; the LP features the same original lineup — vocalist Wesley Eisold, bassist Josh Holden, guitarist Brian Masek and Garcia-Rivera — that was in place right before the split. “In making this record we had one goal: To make a hardcore punk album that was true to American Nightmare, who we were then and who we are now,” Eisold, who is also known for his side-project Cold Cave, shared in a press statement. “No filler, just existential poetic venom. This is ground zero, a new life for the band.”

As a teaser, American Nightmare have shared the thrashing lead single “The World Is Blue”. Take a listen below.

Wild Beasts announce final album, share “The Devil’s Palace”: Stream

In September, Wild Beasts announced they’d be calling it quits after more than 15 years together. As part of their final bow, the UK indie rockers put out Punk Drunk and Trembling, their last EP of original material, in October. Now, they’ve revealed plans to issue a career-spanning live studio album.

Dubbed Last Night All My Dreams Came True, it’s due to hit shelves on February 16th through Domino. There are 13 tracks, each pulled from various Wild Beasts LPs, including their most recent, 2016’s Boy King. The whole collection was recorded in just two days over the summer at RAK Studios.

“It’s us as tight and slick as we ever have been,” the band’s Tom Fleming shared in a statement. “And it’s also us giving the fewest fucks we’ve ever given. There’s a sense of celebration and destructiveness combined, a sense that the fetters are off. Not that they were ever on … but that sense of limited time before you shuffle off is very much a motivator.”

As a teaser of the forthcoming album, Wild Beasts are sharing an exclusive song called “The Devil’s Palace”. It fuses “The Devil’s Crayon”, which appears on the 2008 debut Limbo, Panto, and “Palace”, a track from 2014’s Present Tense. Hear it below.

Wilco announce deluxe reissues of A.M. and Being There

Wilco are reissuing their first two albums, 1995’s A.M. and 1996’s Being There. Set for a December 1st release via Rhino Records, both albums have been newly remastered and come loaded with rare and unreleased bonus material.

(Read: Wilco in 10 Songs)

The deluxe edition of Being There will be considerably larger, consisting of five CDs or four LPs. The extra discs will feature 15 previously unreleased bonus tracks, including alternate takes on “I Got You” and “Say You Miss Me”. A 20-song live performance recorded at California’s Troubadour on November 12th, 1996 will be part of the digital and CD releases, while all versions will feature a four-song KCRW set Wilco played on November 13th that same year. Shamir announces new album, Revelations, shares meme-filled “90’s Kids” video: Watch

After months of staying out of the spotlight, Shamir resurfaced in April with a surprise album named Hope. The follow-up to 2015’s Ratchet breakthrough was written over the course of just one weekend while the singer was seriously contemplating retiring from the music business. Proving that he’s really here to stay, Shamir has announced a follow-up LP today.

Titled Revelations, it’s due out November 13th through new label home Father/Daughter Records. As a press release describes, the nine-track effort sees Shamir again drawing from what’s inspired him most: “outsider music, country and punk. The result is raw and vulnerable, songs stripped down to their emotional core.”

“Shamir continues making music for misfits and those of us who feel so emo sometimes that we get annoyed at how we’re a cliché, but see the beauty in it anyway,” the statement goes on. “In some other timeline, there’s an unknown John Hughes film entirely set to Revelations.”

As a taste of the upcoming record, Shamir has shared “90’s Kids”, a minimalist yet evocative song. Check it out below via its accompanying video, which sees the musician use his face to cleverly recreate a handful of famous memes.

Revelations is available for pre-order here. For every sale, Shamir and Father/Daughter will donate $1 to the Mental Health Association of PA.

Radiator Hospital announce new album, share “Dance Number” video: Watch

Philly indie pop/punk outfit Radiator Hospital are prepping their first album since 2014’s Torch Song. It’s titled Radiator Hospital Play The Songs You Like and due for arrival on October 20th via Salinas Records.

Their fifth full-length to date, it spans a generous 16 tracks, including titles such as “Long Distance Dedication”, “Cheap Day”, “Heart of Darkness”, and “Half Empty”. It was recorded with Jeff Zeigler (The War on Drugs, Kurt Vile) and serves as something of a meta reflection on the meanings of songs.

“Play The Songs You Like is a collection of songs not only about how songs themselves affect our lives, but how the same song can mean wildly different things to different people and how that meaning can change over time,” elaborates a press statement.

For a taste of what’s to come, Radiator Hospital have shared the lead single, a slow but sweetly jangling cut called “Dance Number”. Check it out via its official video below, filmed by Catherine Elicson.

Members of Tacocat, Chastity Belt, Lisa Prank form Who Is She?, share “Top 8”: Stream

Three of the Seattle scene’s most charismatic musicians have joined forces to form a new band called Who Is She?. Consisting of Julia Shapiro (Chastity Belt), Robin Edwards (Lisa Prank), and Bree McKenna (Tacocat), the supergroup trio is set to release their debut LP, the aptly titled Seattle Gossip, on October 6th via Father/Daughter Records.

Edwards and McKenna started the project writing about the missed connection ads in Seattle paper The Stranger before enlisting Shapiro to play drums. The topic of their first joint single, “Top 8”, is as sweetly kitschy as those early songs, with a bit of www dot nostalgia to top it off. A bright and playful bit of poppy punk that brings out the best of each band member, the song deals with that desire for plutonic inclusion we all feel when it comes to our friends. Take a listen below.

Digital and cassette pre-orders for Seattle Gossip are going on here. The album art and tracklist are down below.
